Fergus BIA encourages people to shop local with events through Dec.

Fergus gets festive for the season with the a lineup of events throughout December.

“The Christmas spirit is alive and well in downtown Fergus,” stated Jackie Fraser, chair of the Fergus BIA.  “There are activities for the whole family to enjoy.  No need to hit the malls, visit Santa and get all of your Christmas shopping done locally.”

It all kicks off Dec.1 with the Santa Claus parade at 1:30pm.  Presented by the Fergus Lions, Optimist, and Kinsmen Clubs of Fergus, this year’s theme is “Fairytales Around the World”.

People are welcome to enjoy the hospitality of downtown merchants while checking out the floats presented by local businesses, community groups, and of course Santa himself.

On Dec. 7 at 7pm the  Christmas Tree in front of the Fergus Library is lit for a community celebration. A Fergus tradition, the lights will be piped on and Santa will join us for the festivities.

Christmas carols will be sung by the Centre Wellington Singers and hot apple cider courtesy of Fraberts Fresh Food.

Vision Theatre Productions presents A Miracle on 34th Street at the Fergus Grand Theatre for four showings,  Dec. 13, 14, 15 at 8pm and Dec. 16 at 2pm.

In the spirit of Christmas giving, people are encouraged to contribute to the Groves Hospital Foundation through the “Fergus Believes in Santa” campaign, presented by Vision Theatre Productions and the Fergus BIA.

Look for the “I Believe in Santa” pins on sale throughout Fergus, and check out www.fergusbelievesinsanta.ca for more information on participating merchants.

Moonlight Madness shopping night in downtown Fergus is Dec. 14 from 5pm to 9pm.  Most downtown retailers will be open late.

On Dec. 8, 15, and 22, from 11am to 2pm, Santa will be hanging out in O’Bean’s Java Bar at 216 St. Andrew Street West in Fergus. Families can bring their cameras and pose for a photo with Santa himself.
