Hundreds of delegates and more than 80 ambassadors representing agricultural societies across Ontario traveled here recently for the annual Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) convention. Among those taking part was Rebecca Hannam, representing the Fergus Agricultural Society. Fair president Andrew Taylor along with directors Denise Kankainen, Jeanine Moyer, and Sarah Wallace-Taylor also attended.
“Traveling to the convention, participating in workshops and meeting other ambassadors from across Ontario was a great experience that allowed me to learn about other fairs and bring new ideas home to Fergus,” said Hannam. “It was exciting to see so many agricultural societies in one place celebrating achievements and sharing ideas. For the ambassadors, it was a chance to get to know one another and represent the future of Ontario fairs.”
Ambassadors took part in sessions about personal presentation, human rights, and the Canadian National Exhibition and were able to attend social networking events while at the convention. The highlight of the event was the president’s reception, where ambassadors were presented on stage, introducing themselves and their fair to the convention attendees.
Other local fair ambassadors attending the convention include Kristen Allsop representing the Arthur Agricultural Society, Sara Parkinson of the Erin Agricultural Society, and Kirsten Lewis from the Mount Forest Agricultural Society.
The Fergus Fall Fair Ambassador competition is held the weekend before the fair each September and the winner represents the Fergus Agricultural Society for one year. The Fergus Fall Fair welcomes new visitors, exhibitors and volunteers. For more information visit www.fergusfallfair.ca.
