GUELPH — As part of a plan to support cultural infrastructure, the federal government recently announced new funding for the Guelph Youth Music Centre of $124,000 and $102,439 to the City of Guelph for the River Run Centre.
Guelph Liberal MP Lloyd Longfield announced the funds in a March 30 press release.
“Projects like these highlight the importance of the arts for our personal and community development by making it safer to be there in person, or to provide more opportunities for reaching a broader audience virtually,” Longfield stated. “With this funding from CCSF, the Guelph Youth Music Centre will be positioned to ensure our facility is a safe and healthy environment for everyone.”
“This funding will help River Run Centre produce shows that highlight local artists, build connections with audiences, and bring us together the way only live performances can,” Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie adds.
“On behalf of council, thank you to the Government of Canada for this investment in the safe reopening of our much-loved cultural space.”
The funding comes from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF), which supports improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage, culture and creative innovation.
The City of Guelph’s Live from the River Run performances focus on supporting local artists and connecting with audiences.
This funding will be used by the city for the purchase and installation of camera equipment, the purchase and installation of video switcher systems, and video streaming capability with high-end video quality to show their productions online.
The Guelph Youth Music Centre will utilize the funding to retrofit its HVAC system with five rooftop units and six ductless heat pumps, install touchless doors, soap dispensers and taps in all five washrooms in their facility.
