Feathers unruffled in duck race request

Council here has no concerns with the Arthur Lions Club request for a temporary road closure and permission to display advertising for the groups annual Rubber Duck Race in May.

Ian Turner, president of the Arthur Lions Club wrote to Wellington North council asking for the temporary closure of Francis Street on May 8, starting at 9am to accommodate the event.

“All monies raised go back into the community.”

His request also asked permission to temporarily display the club’s wooden duck to advertise the event.

Mayor Mike Broomhead noted it is the same day township staff is conducting its tree distribution in the morning.

Council granted the request with no further discussion.
