MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington County Farm and Home Safety Association is hosting its fifth annual Pancake Breakfast at St. Mary’s Hall, 310 Parkside Drive in Mount Forest on March 7 from 9 to 11:45am.
It’s a free family event (donations are welcome but optional).
The one-day event focuses on children and safety around the farm and home. With spring just around the corner it’s a good time to review safety ideas with the entire family says Walter Grose, Wellington Farm Safety Board member.
“It’s our goal to teach the farming community about safety prior to the busy season, in hopes that the message is passed on around the kitchen table to all family members. If one injury can be prevented, or one life can be saved, we have accomplished something from hosting the pancake breakfast-
“Electrical, ambulance, ATV, grain bin, chemical, bicycle, gun and PTO safety booths will be set up around the community hall,” Grose said. The day provides useful information on safety for both adults and children in and around the farm and home. Passports will be given to participants upon arrival and they will be stamped as they visit each booth. Once a child completes the passport they can enter a draw for a farm toy from Jolley’s Farm Toys of Arthur.
Safety Sam the clown (aka Walter Grose) will also be on hand to answer safety questions.
“Kids find it easy to approach me to ask questions when I am dressed up as a clown. We talk about some serious things but need to keep their interest- especially the young kids – as Safety Sam I can do that” added Grose.
The breakfast menu, popular with guests, will remain the same: pancakes, sausage and real maple syrup from a local Alma maple syrup producer.
The event is free but the county association is accepting donations, which will be used to promote safety in the Wellington County.
