From 10am to 3pm on Aug. 16, the downtown here will be bustling with activity as Spirit of the Hills 2008, Hillsburgh’s Family Fun Day, takes over the Main Street.
Sponsored by the Hillsburgh Lions Club and the let’s get Hillsburgh growing committee, Spirit of the Hills has something for every member of the family.
Classic cars will line the Main Street. Be sure to vote for a favourite vehicle.
Further down the street, the kids can dig for dinosaurs, play mini golf, and have fun on the bouncy castle. For the little ones, clown Al the Pal will entertain at 11:30am and 12:30pm. Local firefighters will show the kids a fire truck.
The Hillsburgh Lions Club volunteers will be barbecuing lunch for hungry crowds in the Hillsburgh Historical Parkette. On the Parkette’s stage, magician and illusionist Steve Baker will perform at 10:45am. Then at 1pm, the Muir Family Country Band will perform.
On the library’s front lawn, Wellington County’s Green Legacy will be on hand to explain the county’s tree planting program. As well, Credit Valley Conservation will have a display and activities for the kids. Under the green tent, someone will be painting young faces and the library will invite people to guess how many jellybeans are in a jar.
For those interested in local history, a visit to the Hillsburgh Branch Library is a necessity. Look at the photos and maps in the Hillsburgh Past and Present display to identify any of the local people in the film Stars of the Town – Hillsburgh edition.
The black and white film, made by the late Reverend Roy Massecar between 1947 and 1949, and shows Hillsburgh residents going about their daily activities on Main Street, at work, at school and at play.
Downtown businesses will be open, accessible, and joining in the festivities.
