WELLINGTON CTY. – Family Day this year takes place on Feb. 18.
Offering a much-anticipated break, below are some of the events happening across Wellington County for local residents to enjoy.
Centre Wellington
– Free skating at the Elora Arena sponsored by Canadian Tire from 2 to 3pm;
– Free skating at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus, sponsored by Century 21 Excalibur Realty from 11am to 1pm; and from 2 to 3pm and 3:30 to 5pm sponsored by Remax Home Smart;
– Snacks and drinks provided by Century 21 in the Fergus sportsplex hall from 9am to 1pm;
– Free Family Swim at the Fergus sportsplex, sponsored by the Fergus Opti Mrs, from 1 to 2pm;
– Family Zumba at the sportsplex Unity Hall, led by Sarah Schleen from 2:30 to 3:30pm;
Erin
The Erin Rotary Club will host its annual Family Fun Day on Feb. 18 at Centre 2000.
The event is part of the club’s Energize Erin initiative, with proceeds supporting expansion of the Rotary Riverwalk Trail.
There will be indoor carnival games and a hot food concession from noon until 3pm, with face painting and character visits.
Free family skating is available from 2 to 3pm and there will be a free family movie shown at 3:30pm.

Mapleton
Family Trivia, presented by the Kinette club of Drayton, starts at 10am at the Drayton Mennonite Community Fellowship, $20 per team.
Minto
Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) is hosting Darren’s Day in Palmerston in partnership with the Minto Fire department, Palmerston Marlins Softball Club, Palmerston Lions Club, Town of Minto and Wellington County OPP.
Darren More was killed in a July motor vehicle collision while on his way to work. The driver of the stolen truck that hit More was drug-impaired.
A devoted family man, More was also active in his community and was a supporter of minor sports. His loss has left a tremendous void within his family and his community.
Darren’s Day events include:
– Hot breakfast and lunch provided by the Minto firefighters and Palmerston Lions includes delicious chili and hot dogs;
– A variety of winter festival games hosted by CSGW, including a 3-pitch Sno Pitch Tournament hosted by the Palmerston Marlins and Plunger Toss;
– Board and card games in the Palmerston Community Hall; kids can bring their mini-sticks and play in a designated indoor area;
– Wellington County OPP officers will face off against Minto firefighters in the Tug a Truck contest at noon.
The funds raised by Darren’s Day will go to community improvements, minor sports and Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington.
Puslinch
The Annual Family Day Winter Classic Weekend hosted by the Optimist Club from Feb. 16 to 18 includes:
– Four-on-four adult hockey tournament at Puslinch Community Centre, Feb. 16 and 17;
– Pickup basketball, volleyball, dodgeball in the Optimist Recreation Centre gym, from 11am on, Feb. 18;
– Clowns and face painting along with special entertainment from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Feb. 18;
– Archery, golf, catapult and human bowling at the activity centres in the park including scavenger hunt will round out the afternoon Feb. 18;
– Free hotdogs and hot chocolate at lunch in the community centre, Feb. 18
