ERIN – The Rotary Club of Erin, in collaboration with the town, will be hosting a Family Day fundraiser packed with activities for all ages on Feb. 17.
The free event will be held at the Erin Community Centre, at 14 Boland Dr., from 10am to 3pm.
“Proceeds raised at this event will be dedicated to supporting youth programs in our community, with a special emphasis on mental health and fostering community engagement,” Rotarian Deanna Ball told the Advertiser.
Supported youth programs include:
– “Minds Matter” youth mental health and well-being event;
– Rotary Peace scholarship at Conrad Grebel University;
– Erin Rotary High School Graduation scholarship;
– financial support for rugby team jerseys at Erin District High School; and
– the Youth Christmas Stockings campaign.
The day will consist of multiple events catered to all ages.
All activities are free, except for a $5 pancake brunch from 9:30 to 11am and the carnival games ($5 for 10 tickets).
Both the brunch and games will be in the Shamrock Room in the community centre.
Two family skates will be offered from 10am to 12pm and 1 to 3pm.
Other activities include:
– a Party Safari animal experience;
– face painting and crafts;
– magic shows;
– photo booth;
– sensory station; and
– parent and kid fitness face-off challenge.
“This year it’s going to be even better because we have more space within the Erin Centre 2000 to cover with events,” explained Ball.
The Rotary Club received the space at no cost from the town.
Guests will also have the chance to attend a meet and greet with the Erin Outlaws Hockey Team and other local recreational groups.
“Community participation at the Family Day event helps drive the Rotary Club of Erin’s initiatives forward, making a meaningful impact on local youth,” stated Ball.
Rotary background
Rotary International chartered the Rotary Club of Erin in January 1998.
It was started as a group of community-minded individuals who saw the benefit of working through Rotary to make a difference in the community and the world, explained Ball.
“The Erin Rotary Club is all about interacting with the community and enriching it,” she said.
The club’s motto is “We Energize Erin,” which is proven by the various community and environmental initiatives it has supported over the decades.
In 2023, Erin Rotary celebrated 25 years of service to the local communities.
