Expert Kim Barthel in Kitchener for Mental Health Week

KITCHENER – Internationally renowned expert in attachment, trauma and neurobiology Kim Barthel is coming to Bingemans in Kitchener for Mental Health Week (May 6 to 9).

On May 9 the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington, KidsAbility and the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council will host an evening event with Barthel that is open to the public.

Barthel will explore concepts and insights from her book Conversations with a Rattlesnake, delving into the science of compassion.

Former hockey player Theo Fluery and Barthel co-authored the best selling book Conversations with a Rattlesnake.

In the book, Barthel provides an in-depth explanation of early childhood attachment and addiction that tie into the reasoning behind behaviours and the science of how brains work.

The event will take place at the Embassy Room in Bingemans. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from CMHA Waterloo Wellington, KidsAbility or WRSPC websites.

On May 6, Barthel is presenting at a full day conference for professionals – mental health clinicians, occupational therapists, teachers – who work with those who may have experienced trauma. wd
