Due to popular demand, the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre has extended the exhibitions of Evan Macdonald A Painter’s Life and Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven to Aug. 1.
The Macdonald exhibit includes over 100 landscapes, portraits, and watercolours painted by Guelph-born artist Evan Macdonald. Born in 1905 to one of Guelph’s founding Scottish families, Macdonald came of age in the early 20th century. He was a young contemporary of the Group of Seven and pursued his practice in Canada during the Great Depression. He joined the Second World War as an artist-soldier and after the war, became a professional portraitist.
Thomson and the Group of Seven brings together for the first time, 45 works by Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven from the University of Guelph and Macdonald Stewart Art Centre collections, high-lighting some of the most iconic images of Canadian landscape.
