EWCS’ 21st annual charity golf tournament suited donors to a tee

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On July 25, East Wellington Community Services (EWCS) held its 21st annual charity golf tournament at Guelph Lakes Golf and Country Club.

This year’s registration of 96 golfers surpassed past years.

“A lot of these golfers have been golfing for and supporting EWCS for years,” said EWCS manager of fund development and communications Keesha Chinyenze.

“So many people are willing to give back to their community, it’s incredible.”

Kyle Stevenson of Stewart’s Equipment said this was the company’s sixth year participating.

“It’s right in our back yard. We wanted to support the community and support EWCS,” Stevenson said.

“It’s a great tournament; they do a really good job of running it, year after year. And this year, the weather is beautiful.”

The event was rained out in 2023.

Registration fees, a live and silent auction, a putting contest and a photo booth all helped bring in over $19,300.

Community support

Chinyenze said non-golfers also donated by attending the dinner only and taking part in the auctions.

Officials say corporate, businesses and individuals helped make the event a success. EWCS chief executive officer Kari Simpson was grateful for the support from the community.

“We had amazing weather and our community members stepped up again to support EWCS’ programs and services,” said Simpson.

“I can’t thank our sponsors and golfers enough for their generosity and continued support.”

Tournament proceeds “support some of our most vulnerable community members through our adult day, transportation, food bank, outreach and youth programs,” Simpson said.
