ERIN – Council has passed an interim tax collection bylaw, as it does along with other municipalities each year, naming due dates for the first- and second-quarter tax payments this year.
The dates are March 28 and May 31, and will be billed at half of last year’s tax levy.
That means there won’t be a tax rate increase felt until the second half of the year.
Interim tax bylaws allow for collection of taxes until the 2024 numbers are crunched and aligned for county, education and town tax portions.
Tax increase to come Q3
Erin council approved a 3% tax rate increase for 2024 that will be reflected on the third and fourth quarter bills, in the second half of the year.
The eventual increase will amount to around $176.54 per $500,000 of a home’s assessment.
Tax collected in the first half of the year is expected to bring in $4 million, town treasurer Wendy Parr told council on Feb. 8.
