ERIN – It was an exciting Saturday at a sold-out Ram Rodeo event held at the Erin Fairgrounds on July 22 and 23.
Before the show kicked off, people of all ages took turns riding a mechanical bull, and browsed vendors selling cowboy swag.
The Canadian Cowgirls welcomed children in to the arena for a range of rodeo-themed activities, including barrel racing and bull riding, albeit without the horses or bulls. Kids gleefully laughed while pretending to ride invisible bulls, throwing themselves into the sand with fervour.
Once the main events were off, an enthusiastic crowd cheered on competitors in bull riding, barrel racing, pole bending, and bronc riding.
Gasps and groans filled the arena each time a rider was thrown from their mount, but smiles rarely vanished from the faces of the cowboys and cowgirls limping out of danger’s way.
There were also horseback performances from The Canadian Cowgirls and trick rider Courtney Jean Schum.
Schum wowed the crowd with a suite of tricks including Roman riding, in which Schum stood tall while riding two horses with a foot placed on each.
Organizers were impressed by the turnout for the rodeo’s first ever stop in Erin and plan to return.
