HILLSBURGH – The Town of Erin will no longer have to complete the new Station Street bridge and dam by the end of this year.
Council had been concerned that it could lose a $1.5-million Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) grant if it did not spend the money by Dec. 31.
Initially a request for more time was rejected, but Mayor Allan Alls said on April 29 that provincial officials have reconsidered and lifted the deadline. The town is prepared to proceed with construction, but Alls has complained about delays in getting a permit from Credit Valley Conservation.
CVC CAO Deb Martin-Downs said the town has not actually applied for a permit.
Alls agreed that is the case, but said there’s no point in applying until town engineers come to an agreement with CVC on the details of the dam design.
