ERIN – The Erin Farmers’ Market is reopening for its 12th season on June 20.
The market will take place at the Agri-dome at the Erin Fairgrounds from 3 to 6:30pm, every Thursday.
It will have a lineup of farmers, food vendors and artisans.
“From just-picked fresh fruits and vegetables, to heritage meats, baking, jams, pickles, cut flowers, wine, cider and honey, it really is possible to do much of your grocery shopping at the market each week,” stated market coordinator Jennifer Schmelter in a media release.
“Whether you’re a seasoned market-goer or a first-time visitor, there’s something for everyone.”
Each date will showcase a variety of new and returning vendors from this season’s roster of 21 farms, eight prepared food vendors and 11 artisans.
“If you’ve promised yourself to eat local, there’s never been a better time than now,” said Schmelter.
With the help from sponsors – Farmers’ Markets Ontario and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture –the Erin market is introducing a new monthly Sunday afternoon market.
Other new additions to this year’s calendar include:
- June 23 – Know Your Farmer Gardening Day;
- July 21 – Erin Ram Rodeo weekend and Know Your Farmer Protein Day;
- Aug. 18 – Know Your Farmer World Honey Bee Day; and
- Sept. 22 – Know Your Farmer Harvest Festival.
According to the release, many customers have asked for a weekend market, and the Market Committee would like to accommodate that request while still understanding the majority of the vendors already do Saturday morning markets elsewhere.
The market is one of the few markets in Wellington County with a daily indoor space, making it fully accessible and comfortable to shop no matter the weather.
The agri-dome was built in 2022, to facilitate the education and promotion of agriculture within the community.
The Erin market will be working with the Erin Agricultural Society to highlight local farms and food systems.
Along with the Thursday market, it will be open the second-last Sunday of each month from 12 to 4pm between June 20 and Sept. 26.
