Erin council paid over $195,000 for town roles

ERIN – Council here was paid a total of over $195,000 in salaries and expenses in 2024 – up $10,000 from 2023, according to a remuneration statement by town treasurer Wendy Parr. 

The treasurer must provide an annual statement to council due to the Municipal Act. The report also includes appointed members of local boards.

Mayor Michael Dehn was paid $52,177 with an additional $1,609 from Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) for his role on the board. 

Dehn noted during the Feb. 13 meeting, the CVC income was donated back into the foundation. 

He made no claims for conferences or milage. 

The other council members were paid a salary of $21,914. After adding benefits, conferences and milage their income totals to:

  • Bridget Ryan, $36,173;
  • Catherine Aylard, $37,395;
  • Jamie Cheyne, $39,171; and
  • John Brennan, $30,753.

Committee of adjustment members, livestock evaluators and fence viewers were also noted including:

  • Bradley Bruce, $600;
  • Wayne Parkinson, $760;
  • Elizabeth Crighton, $699;
  • William Oughtred, $520; and
  • Robert Fletcher, $760.

Those expenses total to $3,339. 

Past years

In 2023, a total of $182,415 was paid to Erin council which was an increase of less than one per cent compared to the 2022 total of $181,827. 

Dehn earned $50,132 in 2023 with a salary of $35,295 and $14,837 in benefit payments. 

The expenses to the members of the committee of adjustment, livestock evaluators and fence viewers amounted to $3,270. 

The council carried the motion and received the statement for information.
