Erin abandons search for infrastructure director

Joe Babin has been named water superintendent for the Town of Erin after serving in an “acting” role since Frank Smedley’s retirement and subsequent death in 2014.

As part of the same resolution, which council made in closed session on Feb. 16, they also decided to advertise the position of roads superintendent.

The change in direction means the town will no longer be looking for a director of infrastructure, a position recommended during the town’s operational review.

The position would have been a manager of roads, bridges, water and maintenance of public facilities.

“We were going to look for a director of infrastructure.. we’ve given up on that. Quite frankly, we can’t afford what we wanted,” said Mayor Allan Alls after the council meeting last week.

“We interviewed and we have three good candidates; none of them took the job because we can’t pay the money that they want, there’s no way.”

The town posted an advertisement for the position in July, but had difficulty filling the position.
