Erin”™s council meeting stretches on for two nights

Though most councils quite successfully manage council meetings in a single sitting, Erin again has proven itself the exception.

In part due to a rather lengthy agenda package of 225 pages, but more because of lengthy commentary by the mayor, the July 16 council session lasted from 7pm to 11pm (including a half hour public meeting).

While a few time sensitive items were pushed ahead for passage in the final minutes before 11pm, the meeting closed with only roughly half of the items of the agenda package dealt with.

By Friday July 19 the municipal website had posted that the July 16 meeting would continue on July 22.

That meeting wasn’t projected to be quick and simple either since part of the meeting which was deferred included in-camera meetings with the town’s solicitor.

Even though the solitictor was not available, the July 22 session stretched from 7:30pm to 10pm.

While meetings stretching over two nights is relatively rare, this isn't the first time for the town.
