Engineering firm moves into Launchit incubator

The town’s Launchit Minto business incubator is filling up.

Minto council approved an agreement to lease an office in the facility to Triton Engineering Services at the Oct. 7 meeting.

Economic and business manager Belinda Wick-Graham explained in a report to council the town uses Triton’s services on many local projects. With a major street reconstruction project in downtown Harrison planned for next summer the firm decided it would be beneficial to have an office in Launchit Minto.

The firm is also exploring the idea of having a permanent office in the community, said Wick Graham, adding she anticipates two Triton employees would be based at Launchit, which is located at One Elora Street in Harriston.

The firm, which also has offices in Fergus, Orangeville and Gravenhurst, agreed to a one-year lease with a rent of $500 per month, including cleaning services, hydro and internet access.

“Our hope is ultimately that they find it beneficial to be in Minto and they’ll move out of Launchit and free up space for someone else,” said Wick-Graham

Business development coordinator Karisa Downey reported incubator officials are also in the approvals process another potential tenant, a startup business, which would lease a smaller office space for $400 per month.

If the deal with the start-up firm, a massage therapy operation, is finalized, Wick Graham said, there would only be two vacant units remaining in the Launchit facility, which also currently houses McLaughlin Financial and Millbank-based Innovative Print.

“It’s going really well,” said Wick-Graham, noting numerous local business people are taking advantage of training opportunities provided through Launchit.
