Emergency Preparedness Week Is May 3 to 9 this year.
Residents are encouraged to educate themselves about the risks in their community, and to learn how they can prepare and protect themselves in an emergency. Being aware of hazards in the community is the first step to ensuring safety.
People should consider such things as, is the community susceptible to flooding? Has it ever experienced a tornado? Emergency Measures planner Linda Dickson urges people to plan ahead and prepare a 72 hour emergency kit, because the first 72 hours of any disaster are critical.
Understanding how to take care of a family during that time is essential. For information on being better prepared for an emergency, visit any one of the 14 Wellington County library branches during the week of May 3 to 9, or visit: www.getprepared.ca or www.wellington.ca.
Residents can enter a draw for an emergency kit at any of the county’s library branches.
