Leacock Medal winner Terry Fallis is one of five Canadian authors coming to the area for this year’s Elora Writers’ Festival.
Running May 29 from 1 to 4pm in the Aboyne Hall at the Wellington County Museum and Archives between Fergus and Elora, the festival features five Canadian authors in an afternoon of readings and book discussions.
It’s the 22nd anniversary of the festival which showcases Canadian authors, provides readers an opportunity to discover and meet new authors, and raises awareness of the importance of the Canadian literary scene.
“What better way to spend a Sunday in May, with like-minded readers, a fabulous line-up of talented and entertaining authors, and delicious munchies and beverages,” said festival organizing committee member Marilyn Kleiber in a press release. “For a book lover, I cannot imagine a more perfect afternoon.”
Reading at this year’s festival are:
– Terry Fallis is an award-winning author of five national bestselling novels, including the latest, Poles Apart.
– Fergus resident J.M. Frey is a voice actor, science fiction and fantasy author, and fanthropologist, appearing on radio, podcasts, documentaries, and on television to discuss all things geeky through the lens of academia. Her second novel, The Untold Tale, is an epic meta-fantasy and the first part of a trilogy. The Skylark¹s Song, a steampunk action novel about a girl vigilante and her mysterious rocketpack, is expected in summer 2017.
– Pamela Mordecai has published six collections of poetry, most recently de book of Mary: a performance poem. In 2015, Thomas Allen published her first novel, Red Jacket, which was shortlisted for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. She has published five children¹s books and edited/co-edited five anthologies of Caribbean literature.
– Douglas Gibson was the publisher at McClelland and Stewart from 1988 to 2005. In 2011 he brought out his first book, Stories About Storytellers: Publishing Alice Munro, Robertson Davies, Alistair MacLeod, Pierre Trudeau, and Others. It led to his new book, Across Canada By Story: A Coast-to-Coast Literary Adventure.
– The Deadbeat Club) is Dietrich Kalteis’s second novel. His debut novel, Ride the Lightning, won an Independent Publisher Award.
The writers’ festival finishes with a moderated question-and-answer session with all five authors, and also includes presentations to winners of the Elora Writers’ Festival short story contest.
