ELORA – The Elora Singers are looking forward to sharing a program of “stunning” choral music on Oct. 20.
The group’s first concert of the season, Songs of Sanctuary, considers the “place” of music, officials say. The concert will take place from 4 to 6pm at St. Matthew’s Centre (54 Benton St., Kitchener).
In the first half of the concert the Elora Singers will share several pieces composed for specific spaces.
These include the Sistine Chapel, St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice and Notre Dame in Paris.
“The sounds of these works are intimately connected to the locations in which they were first heard and the music has been shaped by these locations,” officials state.
In the second half of the concert the Elora Singers will share the Canadian premiere of Alex Berko’s new work, Sacred Place.
The composer describes this work as an “ecological service that connects the old with the new, the sacred with the secular, and the individual with their community.”
“Join us for an afternoon of beautiful music,” officials encourage.
General tickets are $55, students are $20, and children (12 and under) are $12.
