The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is setting a maximum daily capacity of 1,300 guests for the Elora Quarry park this summer.
GRCA officials say the move will “improve the visitor experience” at the Elora quarry, “with a focus on increasing public safety and decreasing the overall environmental impact to the park.”
The maximum daily capacity will begin this month.
On days when maximum capacity is reached, visitors will be encouraged to visit other nearby Grand River parks such as the Elora Gorge, Belwood Lake and Guelph Lake, as well as other local attractions in the area.
Officials say “overcrowding of this popular summer swimming location has begun to put significant pressure on the local environment around the park, as well as negatively impacting the experience that visitors expect at Grand River parks.”
The quarry is open daily from 10am to 8pm on weekends; 11am to 8pm on weekdays until Labour Day. For information on the park’s status call 519-620-7596.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early or call ahead.
