Elora man facing numerous charges in shooting at Fergus home in February

FERGUS – An Elora man faces 11 charges stemming from a shooting six months ago, when bullets ripped into a Fergus home in the middle of the night.

Police responded to a weapons call at a home on Millburn Boulevard in Fergus on Feb. 8 at 1am.

“Initial reports indicated that an unknown individual (or individuals) had fired multiple rounds at an occupied residential home,” police stated in a press release at the time of the incident.

Residents were home during the incident and though no one was injured, “There was damage to the front of the house and extending into the living space,” Wellington County OPP spokesperson Josh Cunningham told the Advertiser at the time.

On Aug. 18 police announced Ryan Jacob Robert Amaral, 33, of Elora, was charged with:

  • being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there was firearm within;
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • theft of a vehicle (over $5,000);
  • theft of electricity or gas (under $5,000)
  • driving while prohibited;
  • discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner;
  • discharging a firearm or a prohibited firearm with intent;
  • possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; and
  • two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Advertiser asked about the number of shots fired and about the relationship between the man charged and those living in the Fergus home, but police would not provide any information.

“Those are both considered evidentiary and will be presented during court proceedings,” Cunningham stated.
