ELORA – A girls’ night out to celebrate women, the Princess Gala will be hosted by Elora House on May 10 at The GrandWay Events Centre.
The event has technically been held for the past decade, but this is the first year it will be hosted on a larger scale and as a fundraiser.
“For the last 10 years I did a Princess Ball at my church,” said Elora House founder and executive director Luisa Krause.
“It was just to spoil the ladies.”
She added the Princess Ball had around 400 people attend each year.
This year the event moves to The GrandWay, with tickets costing $150 per person, and organizers are encouraging attendees to bring a group of friends along.
“It’s a girls’ night out to celebrate women, empower women and take a stand against human trafficking and sexual exploitation,” explained Krause.
“Everyone will still be spoiled, but now they’re [also] going to be made aware of what’s going on at Elora House, what we do and hear from some of our residents.”
She added the Princess Gala will “give voice to people who have no voice.”
All proceeds from the event will go towards Elora House, whose mission is to provide safe housing and support for female victims of sexual exploitation and/or human trafficking.
Elora House has a primary focus on assisting residents toward building self reliance, resilience and overall well-being.
For the gala, Krause recommends semi-formal attire, but added people can wear “whatever they feel beautiful in.”
There will be dinner, a silent auction, raffle prizes and a photo booth.
Doors to the event open at 5pm and it runs until 9pm.
“It’s an empowerment of women and celebrating who you are, your worth, your value; no matter what’s happened in your past, you deserve to be valued and loved,” Krause said.
