ELORA – The 33rd annual Elora Festival Giant Book Sale will take place at the Elora Curling Club May 3 to 5.
Though the event is still a few months away, sale volunteers are asking for help from the community.
The event is in need of books, games, CDs, DVDs and puzzle donations.
“There’s probably about 20 people that meet every Monday morning in Fergus at our depot … underneath Iron Bucket Antiques,” said Jan Durban.
The volunteers go through what is still needed over the week.
“People just drop books off and we have one volunteer that goes in every day and brings some stuff in,” said Durban. “We got most of [what we need] from what’s been donated so far… but we need more.”
Gently used donations
When donating items, books and other items must be gently used or in good condition. This means no books with tears, heavy stains or inking.
It is also asked that those donating carefully go through the items being donated, as photo albums have been given to the sale in the past. Anything not suited for resale will be taken to the dump, at the expense of the organizers.
Donations for this year’s sale will be accepted until about mid-April, but organizers take donations all year.
Need volunteers
Durban told the Advertiser organizers also welcome more volunteers to assist in set up and take down of the event, and it “does require a lot of bodies.”
The two key dates would be May 2 when all books from the depot in Fergus get moved to the Elora Curling Club.
“This requires quite a bit of manual labor to both load boxes of books into our moving vans, then unload them at the curling club,” Grant Browning stated in an email to the Advertiser.
“We also need people at the club to unpack and organize the books for the sale.”
May 5 also requires some volunteer help to box up unsold books and move boxes out of the curling club.
“For anyone thinking of helping, they should know that whatever amount of time they could give us on either/both days is greatly appreciated,” stated Browning.
“We also provide lunch for volunteers on both days.”
