Elora Fergus arts council celebrates Culture Days

Artists Nancy Ariss and Terry Gregg allow guests to create own masterpieces

ELORA – The Elora Fergus arts council is excited to celebrate Culture Days in partnership with the Township of Centre Wellington. 

Culture Days is Canada’s largest annual arts and culture participation campaign, running from Sept. 20 to Oct. 13. 

Centre Wellington’s theme this year, CommUNITY: A Melody of 25 Years, marks the 25th anniversary of Centre Wellington’s amalgamation and invites the public to join in a celebration of unity, inclusion, and creativity.

Many members of the Elora Fergus arts council are taking part in this year’s Culture Days, offering unique opportunities for the public to engage with local artists and experience the creative process firsthand.

The Elora Fergus Studio Tour allows visitors to step inside artists’ studios to meet creators and watch live demonstrations on two weekends: Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 5-6. 

Artworks of the 35 participating artists will also be displayed at the Elora Centre for the Arts throughout Culture Days.

During the studio tour those interested can view art demos with artists of the tour and friends will be available at the Tall Man Green Space on Mill Street in Elora on Sept. 21 from 11am to 3pm. 

The Elora sculpture project allows guests to enjoy a self-guided tour of sculptures installed in downtown Elora and Fergus. To see the self-guided map and more information visit elorasculptureproject.ca. 

The 100 Thousand Poets for Change event is a global initiative where guests can experience a program of poetry, music and conversation at the Elora Poetry Centre on Sept. 29, at 4:30pm. To learn more visit www.elorapoetrycentre.ca. 

Read a Poem to a Child is a 100 Thousand Poets for Change event. 

Children, even the very young, are invited to visit the garden at the Elora Poetry Centre to listen to short poems, silly and serious and to take a printed copy home. Bring a cushion or blanket to sit on. Cookies and juice after the readings. The event will take place on Sept. 29, from 2 -3:30pm. 

Drop by the Sparrow’s Nest Makers Space at the Elora Centre for the Arts for the Birds of a Feather event. 

Attendees can create a “bird” that represents who you are in the world using repurposed found objects and recycled materials on Sept. 21, from 11am to 3pm.

Participant creation’s will be displayed at Bissell Park. 

During Culture Days Centre Wellington will be featuring Fergus artisans.

Connect with 25 creators and their art at the friendly and accessible Local Pieces Gallery, 126 St. Andrew Street west on Sept. 27, 6:30 to 8:30pm and Sept. 28, from 10am.

Learn about puppet-making and enjoy shows at Bissell Park on Oct. 5 at 10am and 11am.

The Wonders of Encaustic and Mixed Media event will allow guests to  create their own encaustic masterpiece with artists Nancy Ariss and Terry Gregg. 

This event is set to be held on the 2nd floor studio at the Elora Centre for the Arts Oct. 12, from 10am to 2pm. For more information on all Culture Days events in Centre Wellington those interested can visit culturedays.ca.
