Elora Farmers’ Market set to open May 1

ELORA – The Elora Farmers’ Market will open for the season in less than a month.

The market will celebrate its 16th season at Bissell Park starting on May 1, operating every Saturday from 9am to 1pm through October.

Market officials say the province’s current “emergency brake shutdown” should not impact the market season and they are confident Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) will approve the May 1 opening.

“Our COVID-19 physical distancing protocols will be as they were last year,” reads an April 2 statement from market officials Barb Lee and Rob Mackay.

“We have heard nothing new from public health to indicate any change in our status or plans. It is important that we do follow prescribed guidelines to keep our customers and vendors safe. This will be the case until we hear differently from WDGPH.”

Outdoor markets have generally been permitted throughout Ontario – even during lockdowns – as long as they meet certain provisions.

Lee and Mackay said they wanted to thank Wellington County, WDGPH, Farmers’ Market Ontario and the Township of Centre Wellington, which “have all provided guidelines and support to ensure we can operate the market safely.”
