ELORA – The Elora BIA is looking for local business owners and residents to sit on its advisory committees.
Positions are open for the following committees:
– beautification, which focuses on enhancing the streetscape, seasonal decorations, preserving Elora’s natural landmarks and maintaining the town’s unique charm;
– marketing and events, which develops promotions, advertising and special events to drive foot traffic to downtown shops and cultural experiences;
– budget, which supports financial planning, allocation and oversight of BIA funds; and
– governance, which ensures the BIA operates within municipal regulations and bylaws and the Municipal Act.
Each committee must have at least three members, including at least one executive member (excluding the chair) and at least two BIA members. Meetings are open to the public, recorded and must follow open meeting rules.
Joining a committee is a way to be involved in the community, bring fresh ideas to the table, and collaborate with other business owners and community leaders, officials state.
“These committees help shape the future of Elora while ensuring that the interests of local businesses are well represented,” they state in a press release.
Erika Montero is the new chair of the Elora BIA, and in a phone interview, she encouraged interested members of the public to join.
“We want to keep the committees small so it’s not too overwhelming,” she said.“And we want to get away from spinning our wheels over issues we can’t do much about and do work that really makes a difference.”
