Elora and Salem Horticultural Society holding spring gardening event next week

ELORA – It’s never too early to start thinking about gardens for this spring and to get gardeners in the mood the Elora and Salem Horticulture Society ( ESHS ) is inviting community members to a special evening on Feb. 16.

The event will be held at the Grandway Events Centre, 7445 Wellington Rd. 21 in Elora.

Guinevere Kern, a professional Therapeutic Horticulture practitioner  and educator, will be discussing the importance of healing gardens in our communities.

A healing garden has been established at the Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Members of the ESHS are responsible for the maintenance and  future development of the gardens along with the pollinator gardens established this past year. There is a great need for more volunteers to help care for this garden in the years ahead.

Sean James, who is an eco-landscape designer and consultant, will be presenting the current trend towards water gardens.

With the need to conserve water to meet future environmental concerns, this type of garden can be established in our home or community gardens.

The doors will open at 6pm with vendors available to answer all garden questions and needs.

Members who have paid their 2023 membership will be admitted free and for non-members  the cost is $10.

Tickets can be purchase in advance through the ESHS Facebook page.

Each ticket will also provide an opportunity to win a prize through the donations provided by members and the vendors.

All proceeds from this event will support the Groves Memorial Hospital Healing Gardens.

Volunteers needed

The ESHS assists the local municipality with community garden planting and maintenance each year throughout the town.

Any community member can join the ESHS with a membership fee of $10.

You don’t have to be an expert gardener and there is always more to learn.

The ESHS especially needs volunteers to help at the healing gardens this year.

You can meet members of the ESHS at the Special Spring Event to learn more.
