Local volunteers at the Cancer Patient Services Corp. use their personal vehicles to transport cancer patients from Mount Forest to various treatment centres across southwestern Ontario, logging more than 12,000 hours a month.
Economical Insurance, one of Canada’s leading property and casualty insurers, donated $10,000 in association with Coburn Insurance Brokers Ltd. of Mount Forest to reimburse volunteer drivers for their mileage costs.
“We are very grateful for the generous donation from Economical Insurance,” said Rosemary Tanner, president of Cancer Patient Services Corp.
“In 2013 alone, our more than 30 volunteer drivers travelled 140,000 kilometres to transport patients to any of the cancer centres, as far as Grand River Hospital in Kitchener and Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton.”
Scott Coburn, principal, Coburn Insurance Brokers Ltd., said, “We are fortunate to work in an industry where programs such as Economical’s community giving program is in place as it financially supports such a deserving organization that provides services to individuals suffering from cancer.”
