Economic development department launches website, videos and e-Newsletter

Two new videos promoting doing business and living in Wellington County were unveiled at the Oct. 30 county council meeting.

The videos, titled Invest in Wellington and Live Well in Wellington County, were produced by the county’s economic development department and filmed by Fergus-based Tivoli Films Inc.

The videos were shown as part of a report from economic development committee chair George Bridge.

“We wanted to share with you a project that we have been working on for the last seven months, two videos which we are very proud of,” said Bridge.

In the first video, various Wellington County businesses and industry leaders discuss the advantages of doing business in the county. The Live Well video is a two-minute visual montage showcasing attractions and scenery from around the county.

“If that doesn’t inspire you to come and look at Wellington then I don’t know what will,” said Warden Chris White, after council viewed the videos. “We’re going to be well placed to support our communities and businesses. Kudos to everyone involved.”

Councillor Lynda White said, “It will make people want to live here.”

Several councillors took the opportunity to congratulate Warden White for his leadership role in developing the county’s more aggressive approach to economic development.

“This was your baby,” commented councillor Lou Maieron.

“I know how much you pushed to get that whole project going,” said councillor Jean Innes, who added, “I love the catch phase ‘Live Well in Wellington County.’”

“I’m very happy that Warden White started this project,” said Bridge, adding, “One of reasons I got involved in politics was economic development.”

The videos can be viewed at the county’s recently launched economic development website: http://www.wellington.ca/en/business/.

The department has also launched the county’s first ever e-Newsletter called In Business News. The Newsletter was sent to 1,322 businesses across Wellington County.

The county’s first ever business resource breakfast is scheduled for Nov. 19 at the Fergus Sportsplex. The guest speaker will be Ashley Chapman of Chapman’s Ice Cream. Chapman’s, now Canada’s largest ice cream manufacturer, started in an old creamery in Markdale with four employees and two trucks.
