The Early Learning Centre of Minto continues to work through the transition toward Wellington County assuming child care operations at the Palmerston location.
“During this challenging period the Early Learning Centre board is working hard to ensure the needs of all clients are met, but is unable to offer its after-school programs at the Palmerston Public School, Palmerston and the Victoria Cross Public School, Mount Forest locations effective immediately,” states the board in an Aug. 23 press release.
The release explains the county is not able to offer these programs in this case and parents must make alternate arrangements for after school programs at these locations.
The board states it is trying to find an alternate service provider for the after school program, and will be keeping parents informed while it works through the issue.
“The board apologizes for the inconvenience created as a result of this situation and appreciates the patience and cooperation of all involved,” states the release, which directs inquiries for further information to Amanda Bentley, telcboard@wightman.ca
Following a closed session at a special county council meeting Aug. 14 councillors approved a $20,000 conditional loan to the Early Learning Centre of Minto (TELC).
The loan is intended “to sustain the current licensed child care program providing that the operator continue to comply with monitoring requirements of administration, governance and fiduciary responsibilities.”
The motion also directs that staff from county child care services “be directed to investigate and, if needed, proceed with directly operating the current licensed child care spaces provided at 215 William Street in Palmerston by using existing approved 2013 provincial child care funding allocation.”
