Drugs and handgun seized, vehicle shot at in separate incidents: OPP

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police recently dealt with two incidents involving a gun – one ending with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the other with at least one shot fired at a parked vehicle.

On May 24 at about 2:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 26 in Erin saw a black sedan driving erratically.

Police say officers seized over 500 grams of cocaine from the vehicle as well as a loaded handgun and over $10,000 in Canadian currency.

Thang Son Ngyuen, 49, of Waterloo, was charged with:

  • impaired driving;
  • dangerous driving;
  • performing a stunt (excessive speed);
  • carrying a concealed weapon;
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm;
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • careless use of a weapon;
  • occupying a vehicle knowing it contained a firearm; and
  • possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking.

He was held for bail.

Vehicle shot

On June 7 at about 5am, Wellington County OPP responded to a weapons call at a residence in Morriston.

“Initial reports indicated that an unknown individual had discharged a firearm at a parked vehicle,” police stated in a press release.

Police say no one was injured and there are “no concerns for public safety,” but they did not indicate how many shots may have been fired at the vehicle.
