Driver offered boy candy

GUELPH – Police here are investigating after a motorist twice offered a young child candy last week.

Shortly after 4pm on Nov. 26, police were called to the area of Willow Road and Elmira Road North. Police say a 12-year-old boy was walking home from school when a vehicle travelling the opposite way slowed and the driver asked if he wanted candy. The driver also claimed to know the boy’s father.

“The child shook his head and kept walking, but noted the driver made a U-turn and continued following him,” states a press release from Guelph Police. “Near Elmira Road North and Chilico Drive the male again offered candy, shaking a jar of candy at him. The boy ignored him and kept walking.”

The man is described as having brown skin and wearing a black sweater. He was driving a white Hyundai Elantra, approximately 2017, and had a small child in the back seat.
