Drive for drivers in Clifford

The Clifford Community Meals on Wheels service is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver meals.

Meals on Wheels arose 35 years ago from a need to ensure seniors in the community were eating properly. Some, due to age, illness, or loss of a loved one, found it difficult to manage cooking meals for themselves. Numerous volunteers were eager to support the project, join the board, or deliver the meals that were prepared at one of the three restaurants at that time – the Four Aces, Mary’s, and the Redwood.

Now, the staff at the Redwood Restaurant prepare hot, nutritious meals three times a week at lunchtime on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. At present, nine to 12 clients are receiving special diabetic or regular meals that are delivered in insulated trays by volunteer drivers right to their dinner tables at home.

Currently there is a real need for more volunteer drivers to deliver those noon meals three times a week.

Usually, the drivers pick one of the days during one of the months and rotate the days and months as needed.

Anyone interested should call Alieda Murray (519-327-8650) or Ross Derbecker (519-327-8967).

There is also a local volunteer transportation service that could use more drivers to take people to appointments at an agreed upon price. Sometimes the trips are to Harriston or Hanover while others are further afield to Toronto or London. Give Meals on Wheels a try by calling 519-327-8899 and leave a message.
