The Drew House was the scene of a “wacky” auction on Oct. 5 to raise funds for actors and musicians in Riding Off In All Directions . . . The Telling of Lies, a new Canadian musical that opens at the Maja Prentice Theatre in Mississauga on Nov. 10.
The evening was punctuated with songs from the musical, played by Jason White on piano/keyboard, Tilly Kooyman on clarinet and Emmet Glancie on double bass, with accounts from the scriptwriter Daniel Bratton, composer Peter Skoggard and director/actor Colin Fox on how the musical was created from Bratton’s play.
Fran Goddu of Mississauga spoke of the partnership between the Elora creators and the Mississauga Players Theatre Group, which acts as the charitable partner, providing tax deductions for those who support the production.
“The auction provided a great deal of amusement under the direction of Maestro Skoggard … selling various items from a mask from a 1986 COC production of Aida to many gift certificates and items donated by Centre Wellington merchants,” organizers stated.
The chartered bus to take people from Elora to Benares Museum for a tour and lunch before proceeding to the theatre for the Nov. 12 matinee is nearly full. Those interested can call Carol at 519-846-2551.
Tickets for the other performances on Nov. 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 at 7.30pm are still available at bit.ly/TellingLies or by calling 519-846-2551.
