FERGUS – Chalk up another round of dashed hopes due to COVID-19.
A group of Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) students were heading to the National CyberTitan championships in Ottawa on May 4, but of course, that’s all over now.
CiberTitan is a contest for middle and high school students that develops their critical, digital, and computer skills.
Students are put in the position of newly hired IT professionals and are tasked with finding cyber security vulnerabilities in virtual situations.
It’s a way for students to apply their critical thinking and computer skills to real-life situations and maybe to consider post-secondary learning and careers after that in the STEM field.
National qualifiers
CWDHS has entered the contest for the past three years, but this is the first team to qualify for the nationals.
Rachel Routly, Arvid Kuitert, Kyle Welsh, Nick Robichaud, Edward Noel and Quentin Wolkensperg had been preparing for the competition for the past year.
