It’s been 11 great months since Small Town Pizza opened its doors.
“We couldn’t be happier with its success and the outpouring of community support we have received,” says owner Melissa Small.
A small town girl herself, Small has been involved with pizza for many years commencing as a young high school student.
She welcomed the opportunity to use her past pizza experience while incorporating her design abilities to create Small Town Pizza and its warm small-town atmosphere.
Small, who has a husband and two young children at home and a full-time design position in Waterloo, was thrilled to be able to start this business. She feels it is important to provide local youths with employment so they too may have equal opportunities to grow and develop as she did.
Small says she is lucky to have a great store manager, Debbie Alderman of Palmerston, and a wonderful staff of seven team members. They work well together and ensure Small Town Pizza operates at its finest on a daily basis, providing the best customer service available.
“Small Town Pizza is proud to be part of such a great community and we like to show our appreciation by giving back to our community in various ways,” said Small.
The business offers “community value cards” as a fundraiser for local schools, Sports teams, clubs and special events. They are free to the organization and they can profit $10 for every card that is sold. How they work: the organization sells the card for the price of $10 and it gives the customer a third free pizza when they purchase two at the regular price. The card can be used once daily for three months until it expires.
Small Town Pizza recognizes special dietary needs and is proud to offer products that meet the new Healthy School Guidelines to be able to serve local schools appropriately.
The business is now offering the same service to all its customers, including gluten-free and whole wheat dough (special dough orders need to be made four hours in advance to ensure freshness and quality).
Small Town Pizza is currently adding some new great dessert options to its already great menu. They include a “pie-zeroti” (a fruit-filled panzerotti with cinnamon sugar and cream cheese icing) and “cinna-stix” (bread sticks covered in cinnamon sugar and cream cheese icing on the side).
The Drayton restaurant also offers many main course choices, including pizza, subs, wraps, wings in various flavours, sides and salads using quality products and fresh produce. Small Town Pizza took busy lifestyles and various family sizes into account when designing its menu and creating its lunch and dinner combos.
“We have tried to meet the needs of all families both large and small,” explained Small.
Small Town Pizza prides itself in keeping small town families and communities the priority.
“We look forward to showcasing some local landmarks photographed by a young Mapleton woman who takes pride in her community,” said Small.
“We are excited to explore the possibility of expanding to our neighbouring small towns in the hope of finding other great supportive communities like Mapleton.
“We are very thankful to the community for all the support they have shown since we opened our doors in March 2011.”
Please note: Small Town Pizza has made changes to its winter hours. It is open to serve the community daily – Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11am until midnight.
