DRAYTON – The Drayton Youth Centre has gone through many changes in the last couple of years.
Officials say the time the centre was closed due to the pandemic was used to completely renovate the facility.
“We have a pool table, basketball arcade, air hockey game, WiiU games, board games table, arts and crafts supplies and a comfortable place to chat with an electric fireplace,” centre officials state in a May 24 press release.
In addition, a Keurig machine provides free hot chocolate, coffee and tea and a small tuck shop offers treats.
Some of the events hosted by the centre include a free trip to Skyzone, gym night at the Community Christian School, basketball arcade and pool tournaments with prizes, several craft nights and parties to celebrate back to school and Christmas.
“Our Christmas Party raffle was very exciting for everyone,” centre officials state.
Recently, the centre board participated in a weekend strategic planning meeting and renewed a foundational commitment to provide a safe place for youth ages 10 and up.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by someone 18 or older and youth under the age of 12 are encouraged to leave before 9pm, officials note.
“This gives older youth time to engage in activities at the centre with their peers and with our incredible volunteer.”
Centre officials are encouraging the public check out the brand new website, www.Draytonyouthcentre.ca, “to see what we are all about, what events we are planning and to easily donate online. “
Anyone interested in supporting the Drayton Youth Centre – there are many ways and retirees are encouraged to apply – is encouraged to send an to email draytonyouthcentre@gmail.com.
The centre currently opens at 7pm on Wednesday and Friday nights but organizers would like to reopen on Saturday evenings if volunteers interested in supervising can be recruited.
