Drayton Entertainment has announced a star-studded cast for Monty Python’s no-holds-barred, Tony award-winning musical Spamalot. This production gallops into the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge from May 6 to May 24.
A flying cow, a killer rabbit, cross-dressing cheerleaders and flatulent knights are just some of the absurd characters in this laugh-out-loud comedy, which is lovingly ripped off from the landmark film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Retelling the classic tale of Camelot, this tongue-in-cheek production follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on their infamous quest for the Holy Grail. It’s a parody packed with unforgettable musical numbers such as, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, The Song That Goes Like This, I Am Not Dead Yet, and The Diva’s Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part?).
“Monty Python’s Spamalot played to sold-out houses and rave reviews at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse in 2013, leaving audiences clamoring for more,” says Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment. “Its cult-status following mixed with mainstream appeal makes it a show I am eager for Cambridge audiences to experience – especially since it features many of the same comedic performers who made the St. Jacobs productions so memorable.”
Victor A. Young will wear his crown again as the daffy yet noble King Arthur. One of Canada’s preeminent actors, Young was recently seen by Waterloo Region audiences as Reverend Moore in the sold-out production of Footloose and Grimsby in Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
Eddie Glen, whom audiences may recognize as the silly car salesman Sid Barzini from The Last Resort is back as Sir Robin. Nick Settimi, who recently entertained audiences as the loveable Lion in The Wizard of Oz, returns as King Arthur’s beleaguered sidekick Patsy, while Stephen Patterson, who has played numerous roles in major productions across Canada and the U.S., returns as the dashing Sir Galahad the Handsome.
Fresh from his role as the endearing Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, Jamie McKnight will take on the daffy role of Prince Herbert as well as many other comedic cameo roles. In her Drayton Entertainment debut, accomplished Canadian actress Jennifer Lyon will play The Lady of the Lake.
The production also features other Drayton Entertainment favourites including Keith Savage and Liam Tobin,
The ensemble cast includes Robert Allan, Danielle Benton, Rachel Clark, Michael Donald, Dani Jazzar, Nicholas Nesbitt and Christine Watson.
And, to make this production ostensibly authentic, the voice of God is read by none other than creator and Monty Python alumni, Eric Idle.
Mustakas himself leads the creative team as director. He is joined by choreographer Lisa Stevens, music director Steve Thomas and lighting designer Kevin Fraser.
“Both die-hard fans of Monty Python and those uninitiated to this absurd brand of comedy will enjoy this ridiculously funny and witty production,” says Mustakas. “It’s really the perfect show for anyone who enjoys a good laugh.”

Regular performance tickets are $42 for adults; $25 for youth under 20. Tickets for preview performances scheduled before the official opening and groups of 20 or more are $34. HST is applicable to all ticket prices.
