MAPLETON – “This has been a long time coming,” said public works director Jamie Morgan about the Faulkner drain improvement and realignment, noting there have been conversations about the project for more than 10 years.
The work has been requested by the County of Wellington, as part of its construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Wellington Road 9 (Perth Road 140) and Wellington Road 8 (Perth Line 91).
According to a report Morgan presented to council on Dec. 10, “The Faulkner drain flows diagonally (from east to west) through this intersection.
“In order to minimize the complexity of the drainage in the area of the roundabout project, the drain needs to be relocated.”
The drain was constructed in 1948, with improvements in 1963 and 1967.
During the Dec. 10 meeting, Mapleton council accepted the county’s request to realign the drain and appointed R.J. Burnside and Associates Limited as engineer.
“We’re really happy to see this is moving forward and that the roundabout is scheduled to be constructed in 2025,” Morgan said.
“R.J. Burnside is pretty confident that they can get that drainage around the roundabout, not leading it through it, and actually fixing up the drainage in that area for the land owners.”
Mayor Gregg Davidson said “that roundabout has been a thorn in my flesh … a thorn in everyone’s flesh, getting that done, because it was supposed to be done many years back.
“Its good to see that its actually going to be taking place in 2025.
