On Sept. 17 from 10am to 4pm, a free, self-guided tour of some of Wellington North’s most intriguing and charming cultural and heritage sites and businesses is being offered.
“We invite you to explore our robust past and present first hand,” organizers state.
Medical Science and Innovation History is Doors Open Ontario’s 2016 theme. Sites such as the Arthur and Area Historical Rooms, Knox Conn Presbyterian Church, the Mount Forest Family Health Team and the Mount Forest Wastewater Treatment Plant will present information as it pertains to local history and advancement in the field that includes a history of local doctors, a behind-the-scenes look at various jobs relating to health care, information about new ways of providing health-care services and an opportunity to learn about the innovation, processes and technology behind water systems.
Other highlights include access to ancestry databases through the Wellington County Library branches in Arthur and Mount Forest and burial information for people trying to locate family members or friends buried at the Mount Forest Cemetery Chapel, Quality Homes factory tours, a virtual tour of Wellington North’s latest community heritage project; the restoration of the Lynes Blacksmith Shop in Kenilworth at the Mount Forest Museum and Archives, and 10th Anniversary Celebrations at the Saugeen Fitness and Spa
Presented by Wellington North’s Cultural Roundtable, “Residents and visitors alike will enjoy learning more about our communities culture and heritage, experience some locations that are not typically open to the public, and understand first-hand our area’s rich and robust history, present and future,” said April Marshall, tourism marketing and promotion manager for Wellington North.
