Councillors will be donating $200 towards the rental of a children’s train ride for the Palmerston Handcar Races on the weekend of June 14.
Minto recreation director Dave Stonely said the town’s recreation committee had a request to assist in the promotion of the event as they try to revive the event to the next level.
“It used to be a big act,” Stonely said.
Although the event went into hiatus for a few years, Stonely said the Palmerston 81s have done a great job in reviving the venue.
“They are trying to get it back to what it was six or seven years ago when it was at its peak.”
Councillor Wayne Martin, noted others have come along to offer assistance as well – from pony rides to face painting.
He stressed the 81s are still leading the event, the idea was simply to offer additional assistance.
