Dobbie drafted by Baltimore

Canadian national team athlete and Fergus native Dana Dobbie was selected by the Baltimore Brave of the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) during its inaugural entry draft on Aug. 23.

A total of 100 players were drafted to the WPLL’s five teams – the Baltimore Brave, New England Command, New York Fight, Philadelphia Fire and Upstate Pride – who will kick-off the league’s first season in the summer of 2018.

Dobbie’s teammates Kay Morissette and Cian Dabrowski were also drafted by the Baltimore Brave.

Veterans of the national team program, Dobbie and  Morissette are coming off a successful summer on the international stage, winning silver medals at the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup in Guildford, England and at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland.

“It’s phenomenal to see that some of our current and former national team athletes will get the chance to play lacrosse in the professional ranks,” said Canadian senior women’s team coach Scott Teeter. “It’s a great way for them to continue competing at a high level in between … international events.”

Dobbie is one of the most recognizable female lacrosse players in the world, officials stated, adding she has been a leader on and off the field since joining the national program in 2003.

An assistant coach with the Loyola Greyhounds, Dobbie served as co-captain and finished third in team scoring at the World Cup (17G, 5A).
