It’s full steam ahead for the District A-9 Lions Club Convention in Palmerston this weekend.
The three-day event starts April 29 at the Palmerston community centre – and includes a tree planting ceremony Friday afternoon and a parade at 9am on Saturday morning.
Councillor Ron Elliott, a Palmerston Lion’s Club member, was more than pleased to discuss the coming event at the April 19 council session.
He is hoping to see upwards of 200 Lions Club members attend. Often, small town clubs that host such conventions take them to a larger centre where there are larger facilities and more accommodation.
“It’s the first time a small town like Palmerston has been able to bring the event to town,” Elliott said.
He added other small towns have hosted the convention, but most of the members had to find accommodation outside of the area. Elliott said there is accommodation in Palmerston and a number of hotels and motels a short driving distance.
“It’s quite an honour to have it here,” Elliott added.
He said some events are for club members, but many, such as the parade, are open to the entire community.
