Discount rate for Optimist 40th event

Puslinch council has authorized a 40 per cent reduction to fees for use of the community centre for the Optimist Club’s 40th anniversary celebration.

The move followed a brief discussion of a letter from Puslinch Optimist Club president Vinnie Klimkosz asking council to consider a fee reduction or waiver for the Optimist Club’s 40th anniversary celebration on Oct. 15.

Klimkosz  stated “The Optimist Club has been serving the township for 40 years, as one of the most active service clubs in the community. Over 40 years, we have donated back to the community and helped out with various community events.”

Councillor Susan Fielding noted the township had offered similar discounts to other volunteer groups.

Councillor Matthew Bulmer noted that while he supported the 40% reduction, he asked to advise the club of the township’s draft policy which could allow for a 75% reduction if the group chose a non-prime time in the future.

Lever added the draft policy would not allow for discounts during prime time periods.

However, Lever too was in agreement to the discount until the township officially approves its new policy.

Bulmer said sending a letter to the group would allow it to plan for future events.

Rotary request

The Guelph South Rotary Club could also be getting the same discount for an upcoming pasta dinner.

Correspondence from Celia Clark and Peter Clark of Calfass Road noted the club planned to host its 15th annual pasta dinner at the community centre on Feb. 17.

The Clarks wrote, “As many of you know, the primary beneficiary of this event is Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre, an incredible charity right here in Puslinch. Our club has also supported the Parish Nurse Program and the Puslinch Pioneer.”

Fielding supported this request as well. Roth commented he had not heard this particular group request a discount before.

Like the Optimist event, the dinner was also being held during prime time rental hours at the community centre.

Bulmer asked a letter also be sent to the Guelph South Rotary Club of the potential change in rental policy.
