Development charges meeting update

There are changes in the venue and time for a public meeting about agricultural development charges slated for April 16.

That pubic meeting will now be held at 8:30pm on April 16 at the Arthur community centre.

Originally, Wellington North council had planned the meeting for 8pm at the Kenilworth Public School, if it was available.

Council wanted to hold the meeting in a larger space than the council chambers to accommodate more people.

A proposal to set development charges for agricultural buildings was met with much complaint.

“We’re expecting a fairly big crowd. Obviously we can’t have it in here,” Mayor Mike Broomhead had noted earlier.

The meeting is to hear formal public comments on development charges as they relate to agricultural developments.

Copies of the 2009 development charges study and bylaw are available as of March 27 from the township clerk’s office in Kenilworth.

When questioned about the time at night, Broomhead said after the an article announcing the meeting there were a number of calls, asking for a later time to accommodate dairy farmers’ milking times.

“They have ‘udder’ business to take care of,” quipped councillor Ross Chaulk.
