On April 25, peer leaders from the Detox Youth Action Alliance presented Perth-Wellington MPP John Wilkinson with a petition of postcards signed by over 400 people from Palmerston, Mount Forest, and area.
The postcards call for a ban on the sale of smokeless tobacco in Ontario.
“The tobacco industry markets smokeless tobacco products – chew or spit tobacco, as safe alternatives to smoking,” explained peer leader Amber Woods. “In reality, six wads is equivalent to two packages of cigarettes.”
Wilkinson shared the group’s concern and will take the postcards to Minister of Health Promotion Margaret Best. The Detox Youth Action Alliance, which is youth-led and adult-supported, aims to expose the truth about the tobacco industry to youth.
