Centre Wellington Township is planning to create a new corporation under the Municipal Act – but people will have to wait for the details.
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj, at the regular committee of the whole meeting on Monday, announced there was one item of business coming from a closed meeting that day.
She said the township would be creating a municipal high speed Internet service in the township – for various township departments.
Council passed a motion to prepare a business case for the plan. That was moved by councillor Mary Lloyd and seconded by councillor Walt Visser, and passed unanimously.
During question period, treasurer Wes Snarr said there will be a public meeting to consider the proposal, but he was unsure of the date.
He said he hoped it could be held in April or May. He said the business would allow high speed communications through fibre optic wire.
Such companies are permitted under the Municipal Act, and he said shares would be held 100 per cent by Centre Wellington Township.
Ross-Zuj promised more information on the plan would become available as the township approaches the public meeting date.
